If you are planning to come please don't drive. This is going to be a traffic nightmare for us.

I can't believe the city would be so foolish as to okay this event without checking with the school district first. It is incredibly inconsiderate of the people with children, let alone the TWO high schools who will be having graduation exercises today.

Palo Alto isn't the only city with this issue. I just don't understand why it's so hard for people to pick up a phone and CALL the other people who share the site and talk about what their plans are and work something out. This event could have easily been tomorrow and not caused such disruption.

Is this another side effect of the electronic communication era? Are we really so out of the habit of TALKING to other people rather than texting or e:mail? Or is it that nobody cares about the effect they have on others? Are they related?

Whatever the cause, lots of kids and their parents will be unduly annoyed today because someone somewhere couldn't be bothered to pick up a phone.

@PSR

Just think how annoyed you would be with Bernie as president, when he starts taking your money and redistributing it to those that did not earn it...

MV NEEDS Bernie:
"I will take the following concrete steps to reduce gun violence: strengthen and better enforce the instant background check system; close the gun-show loophole; make 'straw man' purchases a federal crime; ban semi-automatic assault weapons which are designed strictly for killing human beings; and work to fix our broken mental health system."

Specifically, he will make straw man purchases a federal crime! Every year, people die at the hands of people who get a friend (or perfect stranger) to buy them a gun at their local gun store. Local and state officials seem powerless to stop this, but the Feds have a chance. Gun shops continue to profit at the expense of the innocent.

Keep with it Bernie!

Hey Bern!

Straw purchases are already felony federal offenses. The penalty can be as high as a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of $250,000. Problem is that Federal Prosecutors often don't go after straw purchasers. Only 125 such prosecutions in 2014. We don't need another law to make that which is already illegal "more" illegal. We need better enforcement of existing laws and more robust sentencing for those convicted of them.

The mental health bit I'm on board with. The rest is too silly to waste time responding to.

It's hard for people to make a case for Bernie-style gun control in any case. There are far too many examples of how ineffectual those controls really are.

In case you weren't aware, Chicago had 69 shootings over the Memorial Day weekend. They have had 400 shootings in the last month alone. That seems like a very high number for a place with strict laws - if the laws were working.

Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the entire country. Also, since it's mayor is a former Obama staffer, I would think they could get federal assistance easily. It is blatantly evident that those gun control measures have not worked, are not working now and won't work going forward.

The only straw man here is the argument that these laws do anything to stop criminals. If anything, they appear to be emboldened by knowing that, when they shoot, it is less likely that anyone will shoot back.

I agree with this poster who points out the alignment of Bernie Sanders campaign with public safety here in our fair city.
