Jerry Brown will be long gone by the time a high speed train starts running in California after 15 years of cost overruns. And then one guy will climb onto the roof of a train car - or sabotage a foot of track - or just issue a threat - and no customers will ever again ride that death trap. Name that train line the BBB (Brown's Biggest Boondoggle).

Support to provide convenience to to the bay area people and improve the quality of life by not sitting in the traffic on 101.

This country is falling behind the Japan, Singapore Europe, all the first world countries even china in terms of infrastructure. We can't just rely on what our founding fathers has built, we should carry on and be a world leader in infrastructure and efficiency of life.

If Japan, China, and most of Europe can do high-speed rail, I am sure California can do it too. It has provided benefits in those places and reduced car traffic and I expect the same to happen here. Infrastructure projects only get more expensive the longer you wait, so let's get this done!

Another social engineering project financed by taxpayers for the benefit of non-taxpayers. BART was sold with this same set of lines, claiming everybody in the Bay Area would use it because it would take you essentially door to door. It didn't then and it still doesn't. We don't need another multi-billion dollar project to prove this again.

We need water storage infrastructure that benefits ALL citizens, not a train that will carry less than 1% of the people paying for it. Stop wasting money on things we don't need and try doing some good for a change.

This is still the same boondoggle that it has always been. Now for sure there will be no benefit to Mountain View.

I can't agree with psr's comment that we "need water storage infrastructure" instead of high speed rail.

First, I think we need both; and second, I think we ALSO need desalination, serious highway and street maintenance, child care (both preschool and after school), zero or near-zero tuition at all community college, CSU, and UC campuses, and universal medical care.

And we need increased property taxes and state income taxes, especially for incomes above $500,000, to pay for all the things we need that the state does not have money for today.

It's just San Jose to San Francisco Airport, so it will skip Mountain View

It would make more sense to go from Gilroy, Morgan Hill to the San Jose light rail. Only a very low percentage of workers will benefit from San Jose to SF at a cost of billions of dollars and cutting the SF Peninsula into two.

Tripo lies. The cost when complete will stagger the imagination if it makes it past a grade in the Central Valley. We will not know the number as we will all be dead. They are feeding consultants families.

This is not just about consultants. There are construction companies, landowners, rail employees - lots of special interests stand to make a forture off of BROWN'S BIGGEST BOONDOGGLE. And if you live near the tracks in Mountain View in 15 years, you might get to see the fast train fly by. What a thrill that will be.
