Candidates vie for chance to represent District 24

Original post made on Apr 8, 2016

The eight candidates for California Assembly District 24 come from different cities, professions and philosophical positions, but they share the same ambition: a chance to represent one of the most prosperous parts in the state.

According to the piece, part of Kasperzak's claim to fame is following other politicians in requiring developers to sell 6% of new housing developments below market to lucky upper-middle income pan-handlers. That is his plan for "affordable housing." Ridiculous.

I find it troubling that not a single woman is running for this district seat. Women represent about 50% of the population yet looking at the photos you can clearly see it's all men running for the position. How unfair!

Interested in where these candidates are getting their campaign money? Check this website: Web Link Scroll down to "Fundraising" and you'll find links to donor lists for Kasperzak and Berman. Pretty interesting! (Info for other candidates is not available yet.)

Highlights: Berman has loaned (given?) $125,000 to his own campaign; $4200 from Rich Gordon's 2014 campaign (left-over money, I guess); $4200 from the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians (they run a casino); $4200 from Roxy Rapp (developer), and $2100 from Prometheus Real Estate Group (West Coast mega-developer/landlord with substantial properties in Mountain View). Total so far, 366 donors.

Kasperzak has loaned/given his campaign $106,000. His list is heavy on developers, including $16,800 from Prometheus so far (Prometheus likes Mike better). Total so far 128 donors.

That's just the start. It's still early, and according to this site, the FPPC does not have figures for the other candidates yet.

Donation sources probably tell us more about the candidates than their own campaign statements

@Anna. There is one woman on the race: Vicki Veenker - a patent attorney. She will probably make the 2-person runoff in November. Against? I guess PA Councilmember Marc Berman - the choice of Democratic party insiders.
