City wins grant for water meter upgrades

Original post made on Feb 24, 2016

Mountain View is being awarded a $50,000 grant to test out new water readers that would allow households to instantly check their usage -- like a SmartMeter for water.

Nothing like some more wireless radiation pulsing 24/7 throughout our neighborhoods. I guess there's so much already. Stop it now before the health statistics point their nasty fingers at this great mistake of our time. There are already hundreds of peer reviewed studies out there condemning the smart meter revolution and wireless in general. The problem and protests against it have become much more commonplace.

Just this month TEDx Jeromy Johnson gave a powerful talk at Berkeley about the dangers of Smart Meters and added wireless radiation Check it out before you get so excited about "being awarded a grant". Web Link

Maybe they can pilot this one in North Mountain View, since South got to pilot the composting?

@Inside Nine: I would appreciate a reference to the hundreds of peer reviewed studies. Having looked up the radiated EM power generated by all manner of wireless devices, I'd counsel all those concerned about smart meters to:

Not even carry, much less use, a cell phone, smart phone or tablet.
Not permit anyone else coming to their residence to carry or use a cell phone, smart phone or tablet.
Avoid Bluetooth technology for earphones, printers and computer mice.
Not visit any business establishment (almost all) that has public or private WiFi in use.
Not visit any business establishment (almost all) that permits customers to carry or operate cell phones.

Ah, here we go. Here's the list. Note that most of these are peak power estimates; phones and smart meters generally operated only relatively short bursts, while WiFi networks operate more or less continuously.

1600000 mW/sq. m: Back-of-the-envelope maximum output from a cell phone, assuming a 2 W onmidirectional point antenna at 1 cm away from the head; that said, your cellphone is neither on all the time nor broadcasting at its maximum power all the time.
50000 mW/sq. m: Federal microwave oven leakage limit at 5 cm (~2 inches): FDA Web Link
10000 mW/sq. m: FCC maximum permissible exposure to 1.5-100 GHz radio signals for the general population / uncontrolled exposure: FCC Web Link table 1(B) on page 96
--> 3000 mW/sq. m: Estimated peak power radiated from a smart meter: Web Link
22.2 mW/m^2: Laptop WiFi at 0.5 m (~2 feet): UK Health Protection Agency quango Web Link
12 mW/m^2: Clearwire WiMAX antenna array in Irvine, CA: Draft engineering report (paid for by Clearwire, presumably required as part of an impact report): Web Link

Not to mention the water fluoridation is actually government mind control, and the planes in the sky are leaving chemtrails to give us all cancer! Some people, jeez.

ANYWAY, this program sounds pretty useful. Looking forward to it.

having something peer-reviewed doesn't really mean much if all your peers are crazy.

This is all about more control by the City Government, let's hope it flops or if not we get to vote on the issue, (I know fat chance on voting).

Already have the Water Police intruding with one of these meter's. Just what we need more government intrusion. We use the pool to stay healthy. No pressure on our ancient knee's and comfort my wife's paralysis. We get dinged big time for it. But it shouldn't even matter. Now we have more intrusion. Don't buy into more government. If they were doing their job we'd have plenty of water saved for drought years. They want you to pay for their incompetence. Hetchhetchy has had plenty of water even in the drought years. SF planned ahead.

big brother to keep an eye on your usage so they can charge you more in peak usage time.

I recently had an $800 water bill due to a leak. I was thinking at the time how great it would have been to know immediately that something was wrong. It would have saved me $$$ ant not wasted so much water. Sign me up for the smart water meter.

Understanding ones own consumption rates and peak usage periods gives you valuable insight into how you are using your water, allowing you to detect inefficiencies and problems before they waste large amounts of water.
