Report: High-speed rail to launch in Silicon Valley

Original post made on Feb 19, 2016

California's high-speed rail system would make its debut in the Bay Area, with bullet trains whisking passengers between San Francisco and Bakersfield by as early as 2025, under a business plan that the California High Speed Rail Authority released Thursday.

Write your congressperson, show up at meetings, write letters, and continue to fight this enormous waste of money and resources.

It is no longer possible for projects of this scope to come in on-time or on-budget.

With population growth, resource depletion, and climate change, transportation infrastructure improvements, including this one, are essential to explore and implement, albeit with careful attention to the details along the way.

I always wonder why it would run up the peninsula, particularly on Caltrain tracks. I can't imagine they will run at high speeds in this area. So why the need for an additional low-speed train operating on the same tracks as Caltrain? Why not just take Caltrain to SJ and then take the high speed train south? What am I missing?

I thought this boondoggle had quietly died off.

There is a ballot initiative currently being circulated to take the unused $2.7 billion Rapid Transit funds and divert that money to water storage and conservation ... something that California really needs. Sooo, bye-bye Bullet Train to nowhere.

HSR is mandated to get from SJ to SF in NO MORE than 30 minutes. Currently, our so-called "baby bullet" takes a WHOLE HOUR!

Why is this important? Because commuters cannot spend hours and hours each day on a slow train--that's what the "HS" means.. ""High Speed"!

By the way, the anti-bus, anti-poor jackals that have mounted a campaign of mis-information (read:lies) against the VTA BRT project also hate HSR. They love CalTrain which shuttles the wealthy tech workers between SF and Silicon Valley and they love their roadways, which they overuse to the detriment of our quality of life and environment. They hate everything else.

Wow.. they are claiming to have saved money they don't even have.

Can't make that up. So silly.

THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. Not in our lifetimes people.. not in your children's lifetimes.

No one is going to allow a high speed train to run through the heart of the peninsula and south bay area. It's crazy to even consider it.

But like any other well intended government program gone wrong... don't let the facts stop you. Keep on spending! Build it and they will come!

Open up some track between Fresno and Bakersfields.. employ a few thousand people.. then use those people as hostages.

"You want to fire all those people? They rely on this train for their lives."

Welfare by another name is still welfare.

Which candidates for state Assembly support this ridiculous High Speed Rail project? According to the article about Sunday's first Assembly campaign forum, two of the five that appeared support it. Take a look. Keep in mind only one of those five candidates had actually filed to run (as of late last Friday). There could be 9 or more candidates by the March 11 deadline. Maybe Jeb Bush will move here and make it 10.
