Is this facility owned by a family who was overwhelmed by the work, or by a corporation trying to save a buck?

The question is when was this facility inspected and what kind of time frame were the owners given to fix these problems? And now that these problems were not fixed, shouldn't they be subjected to criminal proceedings with a severe financial penalty ? Or is this facility owned by few of the MV city council members or someone with lot of standing in the society so that they can simply get away with this? Why isn't the article mentioning who owns this facility. I am surprised liberal journalism is so bad and biased.

This is very sad and only the beginning of a nightmare that is being fueled by greed and the aging baby boomer generation. Currently any facility that will take Medicare is not a place you would want a loved one living in. And at the other end the places that have assisted living and disabled living will only take cash and charge over one hundred thousand dollars a year or more. This is all only the tip of the iceberg to the problems of an ageing population that is growing at an astounding rate.

The facility is definitely owned by someone on the city council. They are co-conspirators in all bad things in MV, right? I got a flat tire the other day and I'm pretty sure I saw a couple of councilmen spreading nails right before that.

How was this place still open if local and state inspectors visited San Antonio Manor nearly a DOZEN times??? Three months ago they found multiple water and sewer leaks dripping from the second-story bathrooms down into residents' bedrooms. City code enforcement and building officials reportedly discovered a number of structural deficiencies and building alterations that had been made without permits. AND THE PLACE WAS JUST CLOSED THIS WEEK? Is the City of Mountain View and State of CA asleep at the wheel?

Why was there no mention of the owner's name, and why was there no attempt to interview him, staff or resident's families? It took me 1 minute to find out that the manager is Rosario Carrero, he is either incapable of running a facility like this or he is just cashing the checks and does not really care. The license number of San Antonio Manor is 435200937.

Regarding MediCAL, which I think Dennis was referring to as Medicare doesn't pay for "custodial" residential care in a nursing home or assisted living facility. The majority of nursing homes, even good ones do accept MediCAL. Villa Siena's skilled nursing accepts MediCal and that is a very well run facility with a caring staff. Generally speaking if you enter a facility as private pay you have a better choice of facilities , than if you start out a a MediCAL recipient (in my experience anyway).

However for the mentally disabled, group homes like San Antonio Manor seem to be the only option as institutions were closed years ago, there really are no other options if they do not have family. It's a sad situation, and deplorable that people like Rosario Carrera work the system to make a fast buck off of the disabled. It is also very troubling that inspectors knew about these violations for some time. The system is so broken.

Kathy, the reason it hasn't closed yet is because there is no other housing available for these poor folks. It takes time to find appropriate alternative housing, and licensing won't just put people out on the street.

This is just the beginning of the PEOPLE WAREHOUSING INDUSTRY. Having worked in several jails as a contractor, I notice that there are many nursing homes that that have jail conditions. I've been the victim ( an inmate ) of several nursing homes, one actually rated as UNSATISFACTORY on the Medicare web site! Yet KAISER PEMANENTE put me there for recovery. Fortunately, I got paroled after six months and the care was very bad in my case. I have purchased BETTER EQUIPMENT at home for the remaining therapy.
There is more people warehouses around El Camino Hospital and I lasted only 4 days in that jug. And that was because the doctor works only during the week and this was a weekend.
I have witnessed several deaths in nursing homes, one in the bed next to me in our double room.

A group of people owned the nursing home through a company made of three people; a husband, wife and lawyer. The building was a converted motel and that showed.

This is sad. This place is a few hundred meters from my house and I have walked by it many times. I've lived here 20 years. The residents were always friendly and respectful and would say hello (unlike many residents at Carmel Village at San Antonio place).

Nonetheless, I have witnessed much worse conditions in many of the dilapidated apartments along California Ave. Those are never inspected and full of human misery. So we should not be so naive. However, as we have seen, apartment owners and developers are in the pocket of the City Council so don't expect much to change. Actually, as a few have mentioned, it will probably get worse. Get out while you can.

My goodness! I can't imagine what the families of these patients must think when they found out about these health violations! I only hope that none of the people in there got more sick while they were in their care!
