If even Trustee Steve Nelson has "a lot of confidence in the new administration," the district may be on the right track. Now, come up with a plan to deter and respond to terrorists (and other bad guys) and the district might even get the support needed for some version of a "uniform" parcel tax.

You think that terrorism is the district's biggest problem?

There have been many joyous exclamations that Mr. Nelson is not seeking re-election. I believe as Mr. Chiang does, that Mr. Nelson has good intentions, though he has big problems with communicating with his peers. However, I believe that Mr Coladonato does not have pure intentions and is viewing his positions as a trustee as a political spring board and self serving position. If he were to get re-elected we will finally realize that the damage we see now has not been done by one trustee.

I'm glad Nelson is taking some responsibility for his actions. But given the issues that he himself is aware of and admits, I'd sure rather have him step down now.
And since at least some of my school board wishes are coming true today, I would LOVE to see Nelson take his little sidekick Coladonato with him when he rides off into the sunset.

Well considering that Nelson didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting re-elected, this is not exactly going to make a huge difference. It will deny me the pleasure of voting for someone else and seeing him lose big-time though.
Mr. N, I echo the previous requests that you step down now instead of spending the next few months as a lame duck. The "communications" issue, sanity issue, whatever you want to call it is somehow finally apparent to you, so why stay on and do more damage?

If Nelson were a rational sort, that's exactly what he would do. The problem is, nothing in that character's behavior suggests that rational thinking ever figures in his decision making. Add to that possessing an ego the size of Yellowstone National Park, and it's obvious why Nelson will stay on and continue to make board meetings a bad performance of theater of the absurd.

Responding to another post, of course the prospect of a terrorist (or crazy person) attack on schools is NOT this "District's biggest problem." It will probably never happen. But there are terrorists and other bad and mentally ill persons, and many of them could be expected to skip harder targets. A car alarm does not prevent a car burglary. But most car burglars will skip cars with good alarm systems. I suggested, for one thing, a modern camera system. It could detect, discourage and undermine an attack and enable authorities to see if a bomb threat, for example, is credible. If the school bureaucracy cannot duly respond to such a logical and cost-effective suggestion, it deserves no support.

It's going to be funny when we're in the "post Steve Nelson" era and NOTHING really changes.
Not saying he should stay.. but I'll be here to say I told you so, do not worry.

I'll admit that I first checked to make sure today isn't April Fool's Day! And since it isn't ... Hooray!!!
Now that being said, I look forward to the board moving forward and addressing true issues around student learning.

Just for fun I watched the video of last night's meeting. Nelson made a comment that the recent district quality review had pointed to board leadership as an issue. He accused the recent board presidents of being the problem. Guess he can't understand that when leadership of the board is being talked about it refers to the collective board as a whole not just the presidents. He is still oblivious to his major role in the dysfunctionality of this board. November can't come soon enough. I echo the calls of others for him to step down now.

I am seconding the comment above. He was in rare form per last night's video. He appears to not see himself as a part of the problem but as a victim of other people. He could still do a lot of damage in the next 8 months.

This is great news. Hopefully this district can now get back to focusing on the students and not have this major distraction of having to deal with Nelson. It will be good to have board meetings where staff and members of the public are not interrupted and belittled.
