Coast Guard suspends search for students swept out to sea

After 22 hours, the United States Coast Guard has suspended the search for two college students who were swept out to sea Monday at Bonny Doon Beach near Davenport in Santa Cruz County.

Oh dammm! This story breaks me heart. Those poor youngsters and their families.

I lived in Santa Cruz about 15 years, from late 70's to early 90's. This kind of tragedy happened many times. ie people (usually tourists) not realizing how dangerous exposed rocky areas are due to intermittent, unexpected BIG waves when the waters are stormy. There is a name for that sort of sneaky wave but I cannot recall it.

Even warning signs would not deter their choices and so they'd be washed away and lost. Very sad. Sick to my stomach about this.
