Mountain View preps for role on Super Bowl Sunday

Original post made on Jan 16, 2016

On Feb. 7, the eyes of millions of football fans will be squarely on Santa Clara, the host of Super Bowl 50, but Mountain View and a string of other cities will be playing a key backstage role.

Please don't cancel the farmers market! Sure, I could go to the California Avenue market, but I love *OUR* farmers market.

Besides, the prices are slightly higher at the California Avenue market. :-P

The article says Castro will be closed, could the farmer's market take place there? Or are other events planned?

I found some very good and affordable hotel rooms for Super Bowl last year at better price then actually advertised by the hotel chains themselves. I was surprised to be able to find these rooms for that price on such short notice since most hotels rates are skyrocketing 8 to 6 months before the Super Bowl. I booked through this website http://www.hotels-50-sb.com and was very impressed with the services and satisfied with my experience.

Can MV Voice confirm that the EventTIK app will allow fans to travel from SF to Levi's without buying another pass in Mountain View? I emailed the Super Bowl 50 info team to ask directly, and they have no idea about it. They suggested Clipper Cards..

It would be an embarrassment if 12,000 fans have to buy a new transit ticket in Mountain View.

If you are taking both Caltrain and VTA, you can purchase a Super Bowl 50 Joint Day Pass for $40.00 per person. This fare allows you to use Caltrain and VTA on Super Bowl Sunday. You are also limited to only purchasing 6 Super Bowl 50 Joint Caltrain & VTA Day Passes.

@Reader, last night, City Council voted to keep the Farmer's Market open on Super Bowl Sunday. It will close an hour earlier than usual so the city can prepare for the game.

@bjd:

Yes, I can confirm this, the MV farmers market had signs today indicating the change to alternate location, plus the shorter hours (closing at 12 noon rather than the customary 1pm).

I'm an early market goer myself, so hopefully I can get in and out before the mayhem ensues. For all the hand-wringing and teeth gnashing about this event, I'm rather excited to see how things play out.

It's not like this is the first Super Bowl in history. Hopefully MV city officials have taken notes from previous large events and discussed Super Bowl implications with similar-sized towns near other previous Super Bowl sites to properly plan for this year's event at Levi's Stadium.

How do people helping or working Super Bowl get to Levis. I do not have a ticket or want to pay $20.
