Editorial: School district has road map; what's next?

Original post made on Jan 15, 2016

The superintendent, high-level staff and elected board members of the Mountain View Whisman School District have some fairly high hurdles to clear if they hope to fix problems identified in the recently completed "quality review" audit by an outside firm hired to evaluate the district's performance. The review by Cambridge Education highlights a number of systemic problems at the staff level, including the district's lack of a strategic plan that would identify a common vision and goals to guide its educational programs, and the general lack of communication and collaboration among staff — a situation that results in the district's functioning, in the words of Cambridge, "as a system of schools rather than a school system."

Let's hope that the board members take your words to heart. They have made this district the laughing stock of the area. Such a shame for the students.

While we are at it let's get an evaluation and review of the second-rate reporting and journalism that constitutes The Voice. It's hard to take seriously much of what passes as journalism in this paper. I won't even get into how the forums are moderated to support so many one-sided views and attacks. The forums should be shut down. But alas we appear to be stuck with this so-called paper.

"While we are at it let's get an evaluation and review of the second-rate reporting and journalism that constitutes The Voice. It's hard to take seriously much of what passes as journalism in this paper."

How odd that you would bash the MV Voice in an article about the MVWSD Board of Trustees, since ALL current Trustees and former Trustee Chris Change have often spoken highly of the fair and accurate reporting of the MV Voice when it comes to school related issues anyway. Yes, including Trustees Nelson and Coladonato.

Seems to me that your complaints belong in a different thread, but freedom of speech and all that. That darn Bill Of Rights just messing things up again!

"I won't even get into how the forums are moderated to support so many one-sided views and attacks."

Hardly one-sided, maybe you only see the comments which you don't agree with?

"The forums should be shut down."

Ah, so you don't like what the Voice prints AND you don't like what the public has to say, so, shut down the public comments section?

Why not just go buy up all the news outlets, then only YOU get to decide what people should read.

"But alas we appear to be stuck with this so-called paper."

So, exactly who's published opinions (other than your own of course) do you claim are fair & accurate?

@PACT Parent,

And your name is?

Exactly.

@William of Martens-Carmelita

"William", If that is your real name...I don't care, nor did I ask other people to state their names before responding to their remarks.

"@PACT Parent, And your name is? Exactly."

The ONLY reason to demand the names of people before allowing them to exercise their right to freedom of speech (or any other rights) is to use that information to attack them personally in this and other forums and even in the physical world.

If you have something relevant to say about what someone said, then WHO posted it is irrelevant to the content of their remarks.
