It was east of Rengstorff, not west.

It became dark few minutes after I stepped out of costco from my shopping and as I walking on the parking lot. Then I noticed Costco and all nearby stores all went dark when I looked around. I felt sorry for all the Costco workers because it closes at 8:30pm and I am sure they all got delayed as there were lot of last minute shoppers waiting in the line.
Anyways, I don't know what a guy-wire is but why is it that it is in a place that it can be easily hit by someone and cause so much inconvenience.

Thanks for the explanation. I was in COSTCO when the lights went out - quite a different atmosphere!
Their backup generator kept some lights on and the computers going for a while, but not long enough to get everyone checked out. I'm sure they had a lot of items to re-shelve. Most of the shoppers handled it well and had fun with the situation, others got more than a bit grumpy.

The parking lot and streets were eerily dark, all street and traffic lights out. It makes one aware of how many lights are used to keep us feeling safe and secure!
