I like that city managers and assistant city managers live in the city for which they work. That is a very good thing. It should be a requirement especially in a city like Mountain View where there are so many contentious issues about the changing quality of life in our fair city at this time.

215,000 to be an assistant. Life must be good for the city works, the new middle class.

I would like to see the total pay package including retirement benefits, health and any other benefits as well as signing bonus and any other potential performance awards. Government workers in California have some of the best pay packages in the country and when you include the "total" lifetime cost for taxpayers they can be in the millions of dollars.

Welcome to a new member of the MV City administrative team. The tradition of paying well (the comps are local assistant city managers with decades of experience - not 'across the USA') usually has resulted in excellent City staff. The advantage of local-residence is exemplified by Kevin Duggan's tenure and nation-wide reputation. Web Link It does not always result in good outcomes - but it can.
All City employee costs of employment for 2015 will be available from the Mercury News data group (Bay Area News Group). They include, I think, base salary, bonus, auto and phone perks, retirement, medical insurance and "other" compensation. The whole shebang.

At over $200k, it sure would be nice if she would take action on things like the toxic caterpillars that are giving our children rashes at MV's preschool (Learning Links). So far, her only skill seems to be to stall instead of taking action to deal with the problem.

Good to see a local resident in the mix. $215k is not unreasonable for a senior-level position in our area. I just hope that the city didn't give her a multi-year contract providing for a huge payout and cushy taxpayer-paid retirement if things don't work out. Employment for senior "public servants" (Voice, please stop with this characterization - many "public servants" make far more $$ than they ever could in the private sector) should be on the same terms as the general workforce - at will. That said, I do hope it works out.
