New members for city commissions

The Mountain View City Council last week picked two new members for the Environmental Planning Commission, the advisory body that helps review and refine most large development proposals.

Why are members of the Environmental Planning Commission hand-picked by the City Council and not elected by the voters of Mountain View during a general election? It's time for members of the Commission to run on their own merits and not just get appointed to be rubber stamps for the City Council.
