RotaCare serves vital role for neediest

Original post made on Dec 9, 2015

For the past three years, the small nonprofit clinic tucked away in a basement on El Camino Hospital's campus has been a lifesaver for Mountain View resident Charles Himmaugh. After losing his job at a furniture warehouse, Himmaugh was left with no health insurance, and that loss occurred at pretty much the worst possible time. He had developed Type 2 diabetes and finding medical care was no longer a luxury but a vital concern.

My wife has volunteered at the Mtn. View clinic and really enjoys helping those who need their services. She is an RN and her time is worth 40 to 50 dollars an hour, but she doesn't think about that. She just wants to help. There are many other people giving their time and they could be making money with their skills, but they take the time to volunteer. Doctors, nurses and other volunteers give their valuable time and skills for those who have great need of medical attention without asking for anything in return. Their pay is the knowledge that the people they help do not have any other alternatives and they would suffer without these clinics. The clinic staff gets great satisfaction knowing they have helped those who need it most. No matter what you think of El Camino Hospital, this is one great thing they do to help the community. They can always use more help whether by qualified volunteers or donations. These people give their services without judgement or prejudice and are a fine example of what we can do to help others.

Rotacare is a valuable resource for our community and for clients we see at Family & Children Services of Silicon Valley. We are delighted that the Holiday Fund will benefit its work!
