I'll be that none of our "leaders" on the Council served....

At least the committee managing the memorial project is led by veterans and family of veterans: Web Link

More about the project: Web Link

Not sure about the non-vet donors names being on it. Seems less "pure" honoring of our vets. It would be a sad statement if they could not get enough money without selling space on the memorial to non-veterans. I'm glad the Vietnam memorial in DC didn't put donor's names up.

George, this project has a long local history, with several articles in the Voice while it was in progress, such as this one Web Link .

The veteran-led group behind it, which Ed linked above Web Link has been getting word out literally for years to the best of their ability. They had a booth at past Mountain View downtown street fairs. All of the engravings honor veterans with local connections -- the "donors" are family and friends who paid for them.

What is "Local" - Will they include Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los altos and Palo Alto veterans?

They did announce today that more granite plaques will be added as additional donations come in with new inscriptions.

What? No new story on the dedication of the Mountain View Veterans Memorial today? Hundreds were in attendance and it was a wonderful ceremony. I was very happy to see how many people came out to honor our Mountain View Veterans.

I'm also curious why Councilmember Siegel couldn't make it and what was so important that former Mayor Abe-Koga needed to wander off early before the unveiling?

Greg, the Voice may be still working on a story about it: news not urgent is sometimes rolled out over a few days.

There were so many people recording the dedication (at which the Mayor spoke, and most of the City Council conspicuously attended as well as former Council members I saw in the audience), and several professional-looking photographers snapping pictures, I'd be surprised if the Embarcadero papers weren't represented there.

Yet, still no follow up story....
