I'm pretty sure if Caltrain actually cared to hear what Caltrain riders thought about this change, they would hold a meeting not in the middle of a work day.

Caltrain ought to institute a "family fare" on weekends. We would've been much more inclined to take the train to SF on family outings if the cost were lower. As it is, for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids, the roundtrip cost is approximately $50. To that, we'd need to add in the cost (along with some inconvenience) of taking public transportation (or taxis) in SF.

For a family of 5, it was just easier to drive, and it was less expensive, even with parking.

If the train to SF were more affordable for families (on weekends), Caltrain might initiate a new generation of riders.

PS - I've also long wanted a late night train on Fridays and Saturdays. There are many times I would've loved to take the train to SF for a concert or event, but could not do so because the final train home departs at midnight.
