What I like about this experiment is that we're finally letting the experts design education. And the experts are teachers, students, and parents. It's time that School Boards, State Boards, and Federal policy makers admitted that they have no sense of the themes and subtleties that make up a quality education. Just mandating standardized tests so we can "track progress" actually gets in the way of progress. There is no need to standardize what should be a uniquely personal experience. And as an ex-college professor, I can assure you that the homogeneous output of routinized instruction is poorly prepared for college work. Give me a student who loves learning and know their own learning style and I can teach them anything.
