Original post made on Oct 1, 2015

Mountain View's own Huff Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School this week, one of only two schools in the county to receive the national award this year.

Unlike Bullis Charter School (BCS), Huff educates all kids, not just the few hand picked high performers. Huff also does not screen out the ESL and Special needs kids like they do at BCS.
Huff's award should be celebrated and the school should be commended for being great educators and producing such great results, i.e. great kids.

This one is a REAL win! Way to go Huff!

This is a great honor, but hardly a surprise. Huff School has the highest educated parents of any school in the district. Any good teacher will tell you that "education begins and ends at home". Huff school parents are English speakers, upper income, well educated, encourage and support their children's educations, and educate their children at home and promote proper social behavior at home as well as at school. Kudos to Huff School's parents and children!!!

While we have outstanding teachers, dedicated families and passionate students - we also have SED families.

Huff parents give countless hours to these kids IN CLASS, but what happens at home? The district overlooks our SED children because they will be serviced by Huff's highly educated parent volunteers and paired with high performing students. Huff’s SED parents miss out on parent education and their children miss out on intervention and after school support that other MV school's SED families benefit from. Test results show that Huff’s SED students are still not achieving to standard.

Well done Huff teachers, students and parents who undoubtedly deserve this recognition, but imagine what all of our children could achieve if the district and board supports it.

If you are eligible for the Bullis School Charter lottery, you owe it to your kids to apply. I've heard the lottery is tight because the school has so many siblings coming in but their well-rounded program is worth it. The Blue Ribbon accolades and the other MV Voice article on how BCS's Common Core test scores suggest it is the #1 school in CA mean you should at least go to an information session. You can be principled all you want about demographics but no logical parent would say - hey, I want my kid to go to a lesser school because I think they should spend time among ESL and Special kids. Any parent who says that is grandstanding and not credible.

That's fine if you think that. Now stop saying it's a "Public" school and quit taking public funds. BCS is not a public school, they hand select and hand exclude anyone they think might drag test scores down.
NOT a public school, not worthy to get public funding.

Also, I know many who have decided NOT to send their kids to BSC. When we're surrounded by great schools, we need to look at the whole education environment, including the attitudes of their peers and the parents. Many don't want their kids in PASD due to this, Many do not want their kids in BSC.
I've never heard anyone say "OH great, you're kid is in BSC"
It's always an eyebrow raised "Ohhh" and then polite quiet.
Maybe some are more polite and feign excitement, but really, most know the score.

@BCS is not a public school. Let's go with your assumption that BCS is not a true public school - if they've figured out a way to get public funding, more power to them. Don't hate the playa, hate the system.

If my Little League team wins the division locally because we screened out the kids who can't hit, kept the ones who can throw 60mph and steal bases - more power to my team. I'm not here to make sure I've a equal number of out of shape kids or uncoordinated kids on my team as the other teams in the league.

But I thought BCS always stated emphatically they do not screen out the undesirable students?!

So they gamed the system to wring money from all our wallets and then decided who in our community is "worthy" of a BCS education based on their set of reasons, money, connections, etc.
Now you can see, by your own admission, why the very mention of the school urps up disgust with most everyone in the area? People should be embarrassed about BCS or angry. Unless you are a broken person, which we do have around here.
I know some people in this area live without morals or principals, but it's rare to see someone so proud of it.

Go HUFF! Worthy of Pride!

Did I just read that right? I've actually been a supporter of Bullis even though we are out of district because I do believe they are on to something with the educational philosophy, but if "Come on now" is at all representative of Bullis parents I would NOT want my kids attending and I will stop supporting the school.

What kind of attitude is that? What are we teaching our children and what kind of society will we end up with if we teach children it's ok to cheat to win (which is in fact what you are supporting). I'm not typically a softly and I have nothing against a fair competition that is won by hard work, dedication and ethical play, but to teach children to win by cheating is not good parenting, it's unethical and for your child's sake I sincerely hope they don't end up in prison someday by following your terrible advice.
