Could have happened to anyone. So - hope you'll heal soon.

People tend to forget that these things weigh thousands of tons and are moving at close to 80 mph. The amount of energy in a moving train is unthinkable. So stand back.
In Europe the trains roll through remote stations at speeds approach 160 mph. The blast from their passage is amazing - almost like an explosion. Folks at the station stand WELL back for through trains.
The fact we have trains moving through stations at speed makes a mockery of erecting fences to prevent suicides, etc. Delighted the injured is alive and hoping he heals shortly . . . and completely.

Although it "could have happened to anybody," it should never happen to anyone. The tracks have a wide safety strip in yellow tile and a second painted yellow line. If you stand behind those lines, as the signs and markings on the ground tell you to do, then you will never be hit by an approaching train.
I do not understand why people are so resistant to basic safety measures like this, but I see people everyday at the downtown Mountain View Caltrain standing very close to the tracks, looking at their phone or talking to friends. Stand back!

First of all, he was stupid to stand that close if this was all an accidental occurrence. I have observed many times... some people stand close to the edge of the platform and put their neck out to see if there is a train coming. come on..you will see the train when it comes...You don't have to check out every 30 seconds. The headlines keep flashing that the trains hit someone instead of meaningful headline. The train didn't somehow got n the platform and hit this person, dummy journalist.

I'll bet dollars to donuts this guy was wearing headphones or ear buds, listening to music and not paying attention to his surroundings.

Every time I stand on a Caltrain platform, I see several people wander in and out the yellow hazard zone. They are always talking on their phones or staring at the screens. These people have poor priorities.
When you are on a train platform, your number one concern is your personal safety. Your second concern is getting on the right train.
These are probably the same people who are texting when walking in a crosswalk.
