Time in not on our side in this housing crisis. We're short on every kind of housing. In-law units are the quickest, least disruptive way to add to the housing supply. I'm encouraged that city council and staff are moving forward on this. Please don't let it be delayed by endless debate over small potatoes like the exact rates of rents or park fees or parking spots.

For what it's worth, I'm against requiring parking spaces. I understand neighbors' concern about being able to park on their streets. I know Stanford grad students living in in-law units in Palo Alto who only own a bike, not a car. Requiring a parking space discriminates against people who don't want to own a car, and the expense of a parking space makes the in-law units less affordable.
