Just this morning, a fire truck with lights, siren and horn was trying to get through an intersection while the traffic to his right (coming toward the intersection) was more interested in running the light (green to yellow) than safety or the emergency the truck was attempting to get to!! 3 or four cars cut him off. Unbelievable!!! Fortunately the fire truck was moving forward cautiously and nobody got hit!
Big thanks to the safe Friefighter driving the truck!

I see this same behavior with train crossings too. People try to beat the barrier before it comes down, and I sweat bullets when it looks like traffic will get backed onto the tracks because there is no room to accommodate the cars.
Driving on El Camino in the mornings, I frequently see rescue vehicles blocked in by traffic, and while most people try to get out of the way, it takes just a few to block the route, either by not getting out of the way, or not making room for those who are trying to get out of the way.
The best I've seen so far is an SUV following an ambulance to beat the rush hour traffic. Classy move.
That fire truck could be racing for your house, or that ambulance could contain your parent or child, please, be considerate, move over. I hope this doesn't become another of those "all drivers suck" threads, because it's only some. Oh, I wish there was some way to publicly shame them for their behavior.

The fact that they actually have to remind people of this and the stories of emergency vehicles being cutoff are a testament to the selfishness of so many drivers on the roads.
It's because they know the cops won't or can't do a thing about it...until they choose to do a thing about it.
This sort of behavior can be easily stopped with a high profile ticketing campaign.
That is the ONLY fear drivers have, getting a ticket. A cop car in the ONLY think they will yield to these days.
