Mobile home residents see trouble down the road

Original post made on Aug 14, 2015

Just a stroll from Google, LinkedIn and the NASA Ames Research Center, the mobile-home park tucked at the end of Space Park Way might be the true marvel of Mountain View's North Bayshore neighborhood. For years, Santiago Villa has offered a sanctuary of cheaper housing in the epicenter of the city's tech hub.

Found the rental link right here: Web Link

Price seems steep. They're no longer "$2700" anymore. Pretty comparable to other apt rentals now.

It is a disgusting ultra-lib-biased travesty for The Voice to call that trailer park “the true marvel of Mountain View's North Bayshore neighborhood.” That’s just more MV government ultra-lib propaganda. This “park” is a waste of valuable MV commercial real estate. All you have to do is walk or bike (15 mph max please!) along Stevens Creek Trail N of 101 and you’ll see that the trailer park is wasting a lot of extremely valuable commercial land between Google Land and NASA Ames. It no longer belongs there. Times have changed for the better.

Furthermore, it is an ultra-lib travesty to call ANY MV trailer park that is wasting space on extremely valuable land “a marvel” or “necessary”. We must face up to the fact that MV has far too much substandard rental housing, both apartment complexes and run-down single-family rentals. MV rapidly is changing into an upper middle class city like Palo Alto or Los Altos. MV needs to rid itself not only of trailer parks but also of all substandard, cheap, and obsolete rental property (including houses) so that it can attract more wealthy professionals as homeowners of condos, town houses, and other single-family, owner-occupied housing.

"MV needs to rid itself not only of trailer parks but also of all substandard, cheap, and obsolete rental property (including houses) so that it can attract more wealthy professionals as homeowners of condos, town houses, and other single-family, owner-occupied housing."

Either (A) you're trying satire, and failing miserably, or (B) you're serious, and you're a real sick puppy. Given your usual rants, I'd go for (B).

Sounds like it is time for the City Council to again examine Vidovich's sapce rent manipulations and take a look at passing a RENT CONTROL measure to protect these "low rent facilities. Also something not mentioned in this article (I invite Mark Noack to research the issue... I could give him contacts to verify it)... for every $100 increase in space rent the market value of a manufactured home decreases $1000. I know that sounds crazy but that oddity is a major factor in the appraisor's valuation of the house. The higher the space rent the lower the market value.
Vidovich is simply stealing the home owner's equity growth due to market pressures by his outrageous 100% space rent increases on homes for sale. It's a kind of predation.
Also space rent increase is supposed to keep step with the CPI rise and fall. That is the market norm but not with Vidovich.
I don't think he's learned a thing from his previous brawl with the City Council and City Manager on these issues. I guess it's time for another one.

ROFLMFAO!!!!

You have the same situation NYC apartment dwellers once had.

NYC passed laws that amounted to rent control: Low rents can actually pass down to the offspring of the parents; most people take advantage of this form of rent control!
MANUFACTURED HOUSING IS NOT MOBILE HOMES!
It can use the same fixtures as a self contained RV. All fittings to an RV hookup spot are used. A semi tractor can been seen moving a HALF HOUSE with the temporary seals and lumber holding the side of the " house " up for transport. Its much like a double wide " house trailer " in that it is manufactured in a modular type system.

If the owners really wanted to save money and be " chic ", make SHIPPING CONTAINER HOUSES; the ultimate form of MODULAR HOUSING! Everyone is doing it; dropping off a working CONSTRUCTION JOB SITE OFFICE, modular RED CROSS OFFICES in other countries, emergency communications systems complete with power backup units and cellular towers; the list goes on and on.

You do not like your neighbors? Just disconnect your services, hire a trucking company and go somewhere else!

A DISCLAIMER: We have one manufactured housing unit in our family in a very rural area of the country.

I hope I will not be back fired by writing this comment on this net by Santiago Villa managers. Because I live in Santiago Villa. Manager here have favoritism which I experienced and heard from other residents. Yes they jack up land rent to sky rocking way. They raise each time there is sale for a place. I don't think that is ethical. Then This place is not affordable housing any more and Google should build their own employee housing close by their campus. Traffic is bad 7 days a week with Amphitheater concert from mid May to until weather starts get cold. Noise level especially high with concert. Also, the management does not maintain this park well except what you see from the surface of this place. I have tree roots all over my place underneath. When they were paving a street I pointed out with all broken cement underneath house with patio is moving away from building. It has a large wide long gap and parking space broken up. When I dig small area to plant a plant there is roots are like spider web all over. When I first inform them they told, " Not now. Later. We have other projects." But when they removing and doing a street paving it skipped completely. When I call, " We are done." There is contract they should maintain a safe place to live for everyone. Yet they are just in for more money. I hope the city knows this and let go of affordable housing thing for here. I think a vest answer is let the industrial/residential zoning should be let go. When the owner and managers just gouging out of people who have a hard time finding affordable place to live.

I left an earlier comment and it automagically disappeared. Go figure.

NYC has had a similar rent problem. They passed a law that allows " rent control " for seniors. Now the OFFSPRING of those seniors can keep that rent " all in the family ". Some " family " apartments have waiting lists!

MANUFACTURED HOUSING is not your typical doublewide trailer.

You see a 1/2 of a manufactured house being trailered by a semi even on the Interstates. It has a seal and temporary lumber supports on the open side. The closest thing I can think of to describe manufactured housing is DALY CITY near SF.

Or if the owner wants to get real " chic " use SHIPPING CONTAINER HOUSING!
Yes, it can be made to meet housing requirements and pass all inspections.

A DISCLAIMER: Our family has one such manufacture housing unit. It is located in a very rural part of the country.
