Top planet hunter retires from NASA Ames

NASA Ames Research Center lost one of its brightest stars last week with the retirement of William Borucki, a research scientist best known as the mastermind behind the agency's planet-hunting Kepler mission.

The Lick Observatory provided a 'hands on science' site to NASA AMES. There are a number of small and relatively ancient small domes that provide grad students and others dedicated ground observing experimental facilities. One for example - became world famous as a Super Nova discovery machine (Dr. Filippenko and the Katzman). These 'small science projects' depend on dedicated, close-by facilities. Think garage start-ups.
