This over spending is clearly due to the CBO. No wonder she resigned.

The $30million the Board voted to be specifically set aside in a special reserve account for the Slater School at the last Board meeting didn't even get mentioned. (That $30million number is rounding down.)

That seems very odd, since this huge Slater set-aside also takes away from district funds which could be spent on other things.

The Slater School now has a $30million budget (which is 3/4 the budget of the whole Castro 2-school project) and yet still Stevenson is not even on the LIST of schools getting construction money.

Well, I guess if that's the price the Board decides we must pay to stay at Stevenson, we'll find a way to make due with what we have. As long as we can stay where we are, we will find a way to survive until the next bond measure, whatever year that may come in.

Had to close Slater--too many schools. Economics improved and the PACT mafia manipulated the board into getting elevated to a school... Should have reopened Slater before giving PACT status as a school.

Enough is enough! Close PACT and give Whisman their school back.

Funny, several Slater advocates have claimed closing Slater was not only an inexcusable mistake, but an outright injustice that never should have happened. I don't know which group of W/S advocates to believe.

PACT has officially been a "school" since 2001 while it was part of Slater.

PACT got moved to Stevenson because Castro was dangerously overcrowded. The MV-Voice news articles archives explain the truth quite clearly. The Slater families told the Board that closing Slater would cause dangerous overcrowding at Castro, but the Board ignored this and closed Slater anyway.

The only other option was to move the Castro Dual-Immersion school out of Castro to Stevenson, but the DI school utterly refused to move.

The truth is well-known that the district approached the PACT families and TOLD them they needed to be moved again to solve the overcrowding at Castro. At the time, the Slater site was NOT available and would NOT be available for years. Stevenson could be reacquired quickly and renovated quickly.

The changes Google has made to Slater since the Board handed it over to Google would need massive demolition and re-building project to make it viable again. Which explains the $30million the Board just set-aside for Slater.

Lucky the funding for MVWSD will rise by $1000 per student for the next year. Also lucky the district is due a pay back for all the fair share contributions during the tight state budgets while it was a Basic Aid district.

Things are changing as to what is affordable. I think the district could now afford to open an additional school. Having another school in another area should draw some students who would otherwise go to a private school. That will add still more revenue to the district's coffers.

You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what happened. The pact handled the board back in the beginning with lots of legal mumbo jumbo and dazzled everyone. This program has hurt the kids in our district since the beginning..

PACT is NOT the problem. People are.
If people would work outside the box and together and be honest,there would be a way to solve the issues.
This includes parents, teachers, management, and other staff. Put personal and political agendas aside. Put the faces of the kids from today and those who will come in the future and work for their good!

"PACT Mafia"?! How disappointing. PACT is an amazing program open to all; if it is not your style, no one is forcing it upon you. Reminds me of the anti-gay marriage movement...if you don't like PACT, no one forces it on you. If it meets the needs of a family, we are fortunate that the District can offer and support this school instead of losing funding by parents sending their children to private school. i am baffled by the seething resentment and hatred toward this program which offers a viable and inspiring alternate to the traditional classroom.

The CBO doesn't initiate spending initiatives. The Board and the Superintendent do intimate spending initiatives. Further, closing the PACT program would have absolutely no effect on a Whisman Slater solution. That kind of talk is simply pointless and divisive. That school was closed at a time when there weren't enough students or enough money. Technically, we still don't have enough students (district wide) or enough money. But that's changing. I think we'll find a way to re-open a school in Whisman/Slater. Whether or not we can find the operational budget is the next issue to decide.

stop posting nonsense on this board. Read the article before you post. She was against all this spending but the school board mandates the spending. This was another highly qualified dedicated member of the community who left solely because of the board members. Think before you speak and read before you vote.
