Council passes new carbon-cutting plan for Mountain View

Original post made on May 27, 2015

Setting a goal to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent in 2050, Mountain View leaders on Tuesday unanimously approved a new long-term climate action plan to guide a host of city operations. The package sets out a time-line of greenhouse-gas reduction targets over the coming decades.

Wait until it becomes law for the average home owner, then we'll see...

Please READ.... "Agenda 21"...it lays out the future for all of us and the govt. (Local, State and Fed) will control EVERY part of our lives..it is scary and important. Go to Amazon and order the book, read it and think.
Monitoring city workers driving habits? You gotta be kidding, except they AREN'T.
Inch by inch, item by item, our left wing govt. at all levels is slowly beginning AGENDA 21 tactics.
"Environment Sustainability" Employee ? What the heck it that ? Let's start by reducing overpaid City Unneeded staff.

This is an April Fools joke, right? Wrong, it's May 27. I'm terrified that our City Council majority actually is so cynically ignorant that it actually believes that this impossible mandate is possible without bankrupting the City of MV, its businesses, and its homeowners. Still, why should I be surprised? Three politically correct and incredibly ignorant and incompetent City Council members, who just may just actually believe in "free lunches" and "pie in the sky", voted to destroy automobile traffic and parking along El Camino Real --- Rosenberg, Showalter, and Kasperzak. Hope I got the spelling right, because I didn't vote for any of them and there's a recall petition for them in the works. We who believe that there's too much politically-correct Socialism must vote Socialist fools like this out of office.

We all need to set goals to cut our carbon emissions, the city is trying to set an example for us to follow. Please think about this and try to start a long range plan and and implement short range goals. My hybrid car gets about twice the mileage of the car it replace but that's not enough I need to do more such as walk more and turn down the heat etc.

If you don't see the need than please don't slam what other organizations and individuals are doing.

This is funny. I live on Calderon Ave and today the traffic was stopped all the way to Church Street. Where is the emissions cut for my street. All I see every day is more and more cars on street and it's not getting any better it's getting worse..

As a private resident, I would love to cut my emissions more than I have, but I can't afford the equipment (new car, solar panels, etc). It must be nice for a city to be able to do this with other people's money. I would have definitely done this by now if I could spend my neighbors' money. Would anyone want to make a bet about a future parcel tax to support clean initiatives?

Resident, are you upset that the town will now be able to use the energy savings towards other things? Should the city NOT do anything because some private citizen cannot afford it as well? As a resident, you also win with the city improvements.. It sounds as if you would rather the city spend more of our money over the years on energy instead of spending less of our money on energy by investing in new technology.

@Resident - most solar panel installations don't actually cost you any money up front. From the very first day the panels are on, the monthly payment to the solar company + your remaining electric bill is less than your current bill. Please don't assume the neighbors with panels on their roof paid thousands of dollars up front. Solar is now a cost-saving measure for those who pursue it (although obviously you have to run the numbers for your own house, and whether it makes sense or not will vary based on how high your current bill is, how much sun you get, etc.)

All the idling cars on El Camino making room for empty busses will definitely help reduce emissions.
