Mountain View man found dead in house fire

Original post made on Apr 23, 2015

A Mountain View man was found dead inside his Lola Lane home early Thursday morning after a fire severely damaged and burned the interior of the house, destroyed power lines and spread to a nearby tree. Frantic neighbors awakened by the blaze tried unsuccessfully to alert the victim before fire crews arrived.

Most people in our society are unfriendly and reclusive. So, I don't know what this guy Gary MscLeod is upto when he says the victim is reclusive. [Portion removed; stick to the topic.] He talks like as though everyone knows each other very well. our whole society works this way by not being friendly. I work with people for decades and I don't know much about their personal life and I see the same people in my gym for years and years and never even bother to say 'Hi' or Hello. This is our society [portion removed].

I see that you live in Cuernavaca and not Cuesta Park where the person quoted lives (and where I live). It seems like Cuesta Park is quite different than Cuernavaca, or at least from your view of Cuernavaca. There are only 1 or 2 people on my block that I don't know.

Some people in the neighborhood know each other from block parties. Some people know each other from the Bubb Park Mothers and Dogs Society. Or from the Bagels and Babies parent's group. Or from Cuesta Park Neighborhood Association meetings. Or from the CPNA picnic which usually draws over 400 people. Or from the CPNA ice cream socials. Or the CPNA movie nights in Bubb Park. Or from neighborhood CERT trainings. Or through the neighborhood school (Bubb). Or just by saying hi while out for a walk. I'm sure there are many other ways to connect.

But there are always some people who are reclusive and may not even know that they're the only people who are out of touch.

I know my neighbors as well. Cuesta Park neighborhood is very friendly and engaging, sad that all neighborhoods aren't that way. Our neighbor will be missed.

I knew Dan very well, he was extremely intelligent, friendly and well liked in the shooting sports community. A comment regarding my neighborhood where I have lived since 1976. I know my neighbors that live on the same block than me which are not many since there are three homes on either side of the block other than that I can tell you that I go for a 5 mile walk everyday around my neighborhood and all but one person that I see outside working on the yard, washing the car, etc. pretty much stay to themselves and ignore my presence. On the other hand most of the people that are also exercising acknowledge each other. I am not saying the people in my neighborhood are not friendly only hardly any body makes an effort to know their neighbors.

I have lived in the Cuesta Park neighborhood for over 40 years. This is the 1st time I have heard of a death like this. It is sad. We are all waiting to hear if this death (of Dan??) was self inflicted (suicide or accident), or if it was due to a crime by an outsider.
