Expect delays during Foothill Expy. bridge-widening project

Original post made on Apr 13, 2015

Commuters using Foothill Expressway could be delayed by 10 minutes or more today at Loyola Corners as work begins on the Loyola Bridge widening project in Santa Clara County, county officials said.

Am I understanding correctly (partly based on an article in another newspaper) that one lane in each direction on Foothill will be closed for 1 full year?

That's unacceptable, and Los Altos should push their contractor to come up with a construction strategy/plan without such a major and long-lasting impact.

I know the current bridge is a bit of a hassle, but I don't think the "fix" is worth it at this price.

Why will this bridge replacement disrupt Foothill and Loyola Corners traffic for over a year? Can't some bureaucratic idiot in Los Altos or Santa Clara county step up and force it to be done more quickly? Is this all about hiring the lowest and most incompetent bidder the contract?

Because you idiots that keep voting down political candidates that want to set tax rates that will support a quality infrastructure. Now that you are inconvenienced, will you change your ways? Doubtful.

What an inconvenience. Wait, what? an inconvenience? Not HERE Not for ME! Although I have zero background in construction management, I have decided that a year is too long. In fact they should be able to do it in 3 months.

Yes, one lane will be close in each direction for a full year. It will create a major traffic nightmare on Foothill Expressway, especially during morning and evening peak commute times. Think of it as a preview of what will happen on El Camino when VTA goes through with their plan to re-purpose two existing lanes to "bus only"

It seems every day I say to myself at least once "I'm sure glad I ride my bike most places" Cyclists on Foothill should see no real impact, but be mindful of higher then normal driver frustration. In other words, watch out for the impatient loonies.

Will there be delays or closures for traffic crossing the bridge itself? There are few routes for crossing the expressway in that area.

Grant Road or Magdalena will get you across and only about 30 seconds away. A minute or 2 by bike. I think we'll survive.

And only a half hour detour for pedestrians. Screw them.

I live in the area. Very, VERY few pedestrians travel over the bridge. It goes right into the neighborhood onto streets with zero sidewalks(and very dangerous to walk on)
The pedestrian issue doesn't really exists except for maybe a few neighborhood locals walking to Moms.

This bridge over Foothill Expy seemed outdated when I first used it in 1970!!!

Also THEN and THAN are two different words. Please look them up in the dictionary and learn how to use each in a sentence.

@Tommygee, "Also THEN and THAN are two different words. Please look them up in the dictionary and learn how to use each in a sentence. "

You forgot the comma after "Also". Please look up how to punctuate a sentence properly. Sheesh.
