Crime is down, but thefts are still high

Crime is on a downward trend in Mountain View, but that isn't stopping thieves from burglarizing homes and businesses, according to a police department report on 2014 crime statistics. And while its a tricky business finding the root cause of crime trends, police say it might be state laws fueling the fire.

Thanks to Prop. 47's extreme liberal law passed regarding possible thieves' right issue last year November. :-(

People seem to think jails and prisons are full of people who got caught the one time they did a crime. Or Johnny Skateboard who got caught with half a joint. Maybe in Los Altos... but the rest of the state is more realistic and most of the time people caught with drugs are C&R'd. The prisons aren't full of first timers caught with a bag of stems. Even "bigger" crimes get farmed out to diversion programs. Sometimes the only thing that happens is you get lectures by the DA. If you're in a city where drugs are common, police don't even waste their time because they know the DA will just kick it back and say they don't have the resources. It takes a while and a few crimes to end up in jail. Those are the folks who are NOT in jail as often now...
