Million-dollar row houses to replace apartments

On Tuesday Mountain View's newest City Council members balked at displacing 32 households in an apartment complex at 333 North Rengstorff Ave. in order to make way for 29 large, expensive row houses.

Yes we need more housing, but even more important is to place more limits on growth of office space and the number of people working here. Given the current imbalance of too much office and not enough housing, our next 20 years needs to severely restrict office growth. Otherwise we are bailing out the Titanic with a teaspoon and making a purely symbolic effort to improve living conditions here.
