If someone donated land to the city then the park should be named after them but if the city paid for it then do we really give naming rights to the previous owner??

I'm pretty sure Cuesta Park, Rengstorff Park, Castro Park, and others are named after the original landowners.

Including an urban or community garden would be a great addition (here and elsewhere in town for that matter!)

Most of our city parks are named after the street or school they are next to. "Stieper Park" doesn't have an official name yet, but it won't be called Rengstorff Park, for obvious reasons.
Speaking of Rengstorff Park: The Rengstorff Family never owned Rengstorff Park - the park was built on the last piece of the Castro family's rancho. Until 1961, the historic Castro family house was located near where the park's BBQ area is today. When the park was built in 1959, the city considered naming it Castro Park but the Council voted to name it "Mountain View Recreation Center Park" because it was the first large park built by the city - and the Council wanted the city's - not the Castros - name on it. It was renamed Rengstorff Park in 1970 to correspond with the street name.
