Are toll lanes the answer to commute headache?

Maybe it was inevitable in the land of overnight millionaires striking gold in an area famous for its explosive growth and frenzied pace. The Valley Transportation Authority, partnering with the state Department of Transportation, is moving full speed ahead on projects that convert long-familiar carpool lanes on Santa Clara County highways to "express" lanes that allow drivers traveling solo to zip down the road in the theoretically more speedy lanes now restricted to buses and vehicles with two or more people. But of course, there's a price tag attached to that entitlement.

In another Voice article, John Ristow (VTA) states that ..."rather, the option of paying a toll to obtain travel time savings would be available to drivers of all income groups."

By that logic, drivers of all income groups have also the "option" of purchasing a Maserati, hotel22 guests have the "option" of leasing an apartment at Madera...

Pretty callous statement from a Public agency representative...
