Why do the describe it as tresspassing.? Pretty obvious when being inside a fenced off area!

@terry:
It's described as trespassing because not every knows the exact configuration of the Caltrain right-of-way and where there are openings (e.g., grade crossings) and the exact street locations.
Do you know all the Caltrain grade crossings from SF to San Jose and the exact names of the cross streets of all of them? Probably not, even if you are a regular Caltrain rider.
Remember, this newspaper services not just the residents of Mountain View, but also people who live/work nearby or who commute through the town, as well as occasional visitors.
I will point out that a service interruption on Caltrain affects thousands of people, not just the riders, but also their families, colleagues, friends, as well as random bystanders in the form of increased traffic, etc. Many of these people have zero knowledge about where there are openings in the Caltrain right-of-way.

How sad.
RIP young man.
If it was a suicide it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Actually, it's called "trespassing" because the strip of land the rails are set upon are private property owned by the railroad. Walking along the tracks is technically like walking into some stranger's back yard.
I feel sorry for the lad who felt it was time to go, but I feel worse for the engineers who all to often has to experience this kind of thing more than once.

I'm confused about the identity of this young man. Daniel Snyder, a 28 year old, tennis playing, Paly grad, is the person cited in this article as the deceased - but if you search, there was an obituary written about him in January 2015. Is this another Daniel Snyder of a very similar background, or is there some kind of mix up?
