Rash of graffiti reports in MV

Original post made on Jan 23, 2015

Police received a rash of vandalism reports over graffiti involving gang symbols -- or "gang tagging" -- in Mountain View earlier this month, one of them leading to the arrest of two juveniles.

If they want to paint, give them a paint brush and some cover up paint to get rid of all the graffiti on weekends. Dum basses. What are they thinking?

What are "dum basses"? A rare fish?

"Jaeger said it's hard to say what's causing the high volume of reports. He said it could be the community reporting more things to the police rather than a direct increase in gang tagging."

No it's not hard to say. Graffiti is out of control in some areas. There are 3 taggers plus wanna-be (I assume) gang taggers who are going crazy all around Castro elementary.

AT&T painted over the graffiti today (Friday the 23rd) on their utility boxes across from Castro Elementary. (It was all tagged up Thursday from earlier graffiti)

Also sometime during the day (23rd) someone painted over the graffiti at the abandoned apartments across from Castro elementary.

Both spots were tagged up again by midnight. Usually it would take about 48 hours.

Cost Plus is getting more and more graffiti by the week. You'd think they'd care enough to clean it up, but apparently not.

I agree that there's definitely more going around. It seems more like kids than gangs, but the police statement suggesting people are just calling it in more is a complete joke.

The area around Castro School definitely has NEW graffiti every few days over the last month, maybe 2 months. There was a bunch before, with different taggers. Same ones that were all over MV.."Simer" "Kelso" and for a while someone using "Jixr" or "jixer" or something...those are gone. These new kids have gone from sloppy to...less slopping.

Perfecting their tags while while they run amok. The weird little building were the luggage shop and computer repair used to be is fenced off and totally covered with tags by these recent kids.

I would hope the MVPD info officer was just making a knowingly empty statement rather than being totally oblivious to it.

Cost Plus looks pretty bad. I'm amazed that they obviously don't give a damn. If they're renting, I'd be on the phone to the owners twice a week til it got cleaned up.

Oh good "sabi" returned to Cost Plus sometime since dinner time Saturday and tagged all the doors next to their loading dock.

Take some notes Sgt Jaeger. Don't forget the same person tagged the bldg with Standard Optometry and Bay Area Dance.... but I guess that's Chef Chu and Los Altos PD's problem

You guys are silly, I lived right there in the area on Edna Mary near McDonald's, that area is a sureno block. The kids are just pot smoking hoodlums but do cause trouble. General theft and tagging the territory mostly. The reingstorf area is a norteno block hence where that kid got killed like 8 years ago...Sparta is pretty on point, kelso is a Bay Area problem, prolific tagged all the way to the city. Although IMO he resides in MV or Sunnyvale. Simer is a joke...he is a little white boy on a skateboard and I have seen him tag in broad daylight , he is a joke, the fact kelso runs with him is not the point but I would bet he gets up near kelsos tags for attention. He is a pencil crayon type tagged IMO.

So ow the new scare enlightened. Gang graffiti marks a territory with street names and numbers 13 like on Edna Mary. Or reingstorf like 14 and red. Kelso just likes writing on stuff.

MVPD will do anything to downplay crime. Several times now I have had to beg them to file a police report under anything other than "suspicious circumstances" which basically translates as nothing. I finally got them to raise one to vandalism. Otherwise it's the oldest trick in the book to keep crime stats down and give the appearance that the police are actually doing there job and have their eyes and ears open.

You can use a smartphone app called "Ask Mountain View" to report grafitti and other problems around town.

I use it all the time to report tagging on the San Antonio Train Station pedestrian tunnel. The City response is usually pretty quick. My philosophy is to get grafitti removed quickly. Don't give the little f**cks any chance to sit back and admire their useless work.

Kelso seems to spend a ton of time in a certain area. (then move on)
He will never be "chaka"though. I actually saw a few of that guy's tags. Not long after he had been caught actually.

If rengstorff is Norteno, they do a poor job of keeping "MVS13" chavalas from tagging up "their" area.

I don't remember this much tagging at MVHS when I was there. Wish I could blame LAHS kids.

But maybe it's St Francis gangstas

Let's skip the sugar coating... it isn't 'tagging', it's just plain vandalism. And good luck having the MVPD address the problem, there just isn't any revenue money from fines in it.

The old luggage store on El Camino has graffiti on it, and is look more and more dilapidated each time I pass by it. There is some sort of orange/red graffiti on one of the signs over Rte 85 N too, just before the 101 merge. Why would anyone go through the bother of getting paint cans, hiking out to 101, climbing up a sign post, just to make some nonsensical scribbles?

Maybe Sgt Jaeger's quote was just a trick to exploit human nature and get people to list where they've seen graffiti.
