umm, why would you restore this shed? With the donations at hand you could put together 62 shacks to house the homeless

Ummm, because the Immigrant House was part of Mountain View history, perhaps? And since there isn't that much left of the original Mountain View to begin with...
And besides, there isn't anything standing in the way of doing restoration work on the Immigrant House AND helping the homeless in the community. Really, there isn't.

If article is accurate it seems to me MV city government is dragging its feet re developing needed info and actions to truly support this project. Very tacky sort of yes but no game from where I sit.
We Americans seem to have a long history of ambivalent interest in our history when it comes to saving buildings that give insights to our past.
I wish we were more insightful vav this issue.

Of course it should be preserved and I agree that the City of Mountain View should take care of this and be done with it.
Regarding the homeless; can we not preserve a TINY piece of Mountain View history AND help the homeless? Maybe if more than 92 people supported The Mountain View Voice Holiday Fund (I believe that was the count as of Dec 30) we would be able to do a lot more for the homeless and others in need. Last year was a banner year for the holiday fund with $114K, this year last I checked at 70K. If half the households in Mountain View gave $25 bucks they would raise over 300K. If you have not donated here is the link Web Link Anyway, I digress....
It amazes me how little so many people in this area care about history. When people go to Europe, do you know where they go? They want to see the the old towns, the villages preserved for centuries. They do not want see high rise apartments and office parks. Of course here in Silicon Valley, many visitors would choose the Googleplex over Stanford, the Redwoods and the Golden Gate....which is pathetic.
