After eleven days of no fireplaces burning wood in the entire Bay Area there continues to be unhealthy air pollution according the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s judgment.
It should be obvious that wood burning is not a significant contributing factor to the problem. If it was then by now the air should be crystal clear and pure.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District needs to stop wasting time on the witch hunt of ferreting out wood burning violators to fine. Instead they need to uncover the real contributors to pollution and address that issue aggressively.
But, perhaps that ruffles the feathers of the big corporations who are the major contributors to political parties, candidates and campaigns.
The numbers produced by the samples that, “Spare the Air” no burning days, are based on are suspect.
Studies can and generally are slanted toward justifying any results that are desired.
Just because some influential people do not like the smell of wood smoke does not make it a danger to humans.
The 22 ABAG directors need to completely rethink the value and direction the BAAQM and either redirect it or disband it.
Some sharp, unbiased reporter should to do an in-depth expose on this issue and publish it.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, wood burning is the single largest source of hazardous particle pollution during winter, creating even more particle pollution than vehicles and industry.
Spare the Air days happen when there is no air movement (wind) to take the smoke away. Without the movement, it stays around and concentrates.
The tiny little microscopic particles enter the lungs, stick around for months doing physical damage. Cancers can form too. Very, very bad.
