So they practically copied the LAHS idea? Why are they getting so much credit then

They're getting credit because they are starting a card that affects MVHS students who cannot use the LAHS card.

In the same way, it's newsworthy when Florida starts allowing same-sex marriage even though Massachusetts was the first state to do so. It's important to people in Florida.

This is the Mountain View Voice, a newspaper that reports on issues that affect people who live and/or work in Mountain View, as well as provide relevant coverage for people in nearby cities since no one lives in a bubble, as well as topics from nearby towns.

I am not sure if you are simply severely uninformed about the Eagle Card, but there are notable differences that seem to have escaped you, Mark.

Profits from the Eagle Card go into their school's ASB fund whereas money made from the Spartan Swipe Card enters a scholarship fund that helps economically disadvantaged students attend school events such as Prom and Grad Night.

Also, the Eagle Card is a class venture for student-elected officials (ASB) at Los Altos High School who must sell a certain number of cards as required by the class. The Spartan Swipe Card was founded by two MVHS students independently of any class or club.

Lastly, the Forestieri's article provides Voice readers an interesting story about how such a program came to be. The Eagle Card has existed for many years and they have established relationships with their vendors that allow them to simply renew contracts each year. From a journalistic perspective, the recent advent of the Swipe Card alone merits an article.

I hope this answers your question.
