Yep. Those SUVs will flip over if you just look at them hard. Slow speed or fast, they will try to show you their belly at every opportunity. I'm amazed at how many people think they are safe, esp for kids.

Cars flip like that when they hit something, either a curb, run up on another car, or anything else that makes one wheel "climb" on something, or they slide sideways and hit an obstacle, flipping them. SUV's are more prone to roll over than cars with lower centers of gravity, but only slightly more so. My guess is that some amount of driver stupidity was involved here. I've driven many cars at the very limits of their capabilities in controlled conditions, and SUV's aren't as scary as you make them out to be. There is some junk from the 80's that's particularly bad (Suzuki Samurai), and some exceptionally bad modern cars (Jeep Wrangler), but these days, that's the exception rather than the rule. Modern SUV safety isn't significantly different from that of modern cars.

"The accident on Middlefield Road at Terra Bella Venue occurred a little after 9:30 a.m."
Terra Bella Venue? Yep, you can sure tell this paper isn't done in Mountain View anymore. Not done by people who know it's called Terra Bella Avenue.

If the SUV hit the white car, I'd rather be in the car than that upside down SUV's that doesn't roll over as much ;)
