Residents urged to prepare for storm

Bay Area residents should prepare themselves for heavy rain and strong winds when a storm expected to be the largest of the season so far hits the region Wednesday and Thursday, National Weather Service officials said.

Leave a gap between the curb and you car tires so leaves water can flow and not pool up. Also don't snug your garbage can wheels against the curbs on rainy days. It dams up the gutter.

The final half of the final sentence .... "make sure headlights are on whenever windshield wipers are activated" Seriously, it make a huge difference. If you were, thank you for listening.

If you park your car outside, try not to park under a tree. Or near a big one... San Francisco...you're out of luck on being picky...but around here it's worth the extra walk. Small chance of getting your car crushed/blocked by a tree...but it's one of those things that you'll kick yourself for if you get a tree blocking/damaging your car

Yeah, doesn't drought conditions plus all-of-a-sudden flood and strong wind equal many downed trees?

Its not so much the all of a sudden rain that does it, it's mostly the wind, but the rain plays a part. Right now the drought has weakened some trees so winds will break off the weak limbs. If the roots are in bad shape and the ground is softened by rain, strong winds can topple the tree over.
Eucalyptus trees are notorious for losing heavy limbs early in the season.

Between rain bursts I go out with my rake and pull debris away from the gutters and storm drains about 18 inches into the street. The street sweeper truck then can get it when they do their rounds next. I echo the need to keep distance from car tires and trash can wheels to allow the water to flow unobstructed. Watch for cars when raking and wear white or yellow to be seen. I have been doing this in my neighborhood for years and there are now some others who have joined the party. It is soooo easy to do this little thing.
