Housing in North Bayshore May Already Be a Dead Issue!!!

Original post made by Jim Neal, Old Mountain View, on Nov 26, 2014

Prior to the decision, several residents spoke out in favor and against passage. There were also two union representative who spoke against passage citing the good jobs that would be created ( assuming housing would be allowed ) and Linked In spoke in favor of the current precise plan.

There were several interesting moments as well. One of which was when Lenny Seigel spoke. I have attached a clip of his comments below so you can hear them unfiltered and in context:

Jac Seigel's response was equally interesting:

However the reason that housing in the North Bayshore may be dead, can be found in the statement that Council Member Inks made prior to voting against the plan. Once more, I have included the video so you can hear the comments and decide their meaning for yourselves:

If I understood Council Member Inks comments clearly, he intends to respect the vote of the current council and work with them to make any necessary changes or improvements to the current plan, but not to revisit the issue of housing or amending the General Plan. If that is the case, then the whole campaign that has been waged by many in the local media to make this the only issue in the Mountain View City Council Campaign, may have been much ado about nothing and this is the point that I had been trying to get across in my prior article (which was removed).

Jim,

Council member Inks is but one vote. I don't think he'll be in the majority if he doesn't want housing in the NBS. But...we shall see.

Thank you Jim for sharing these.

Whenever Jac Seigal starts off by thanking you for your hard work, you know he's about to tell you why he disagrees with you. His statement reminds me of George Bush's re-election quote, "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it."

Good thing the two Seigals aren't' related, as Jac made no secret of his dislike for Lenny. Pretty immature IMO.

Thanks Bax and Res! Given that all the other Council Members voted for the current plan, I can't see them changing their minds next year. I can see both sides of the argument and they all have valid points. There is no doubt that the next Council will at least discuss the issue and as you said, we'll see what happens.

What is it going to cost the city if the precise plan is redone?

I understand the precise plan as it currently exists took almost six years is that correct?

No doubt if the precise plan were to be redone, it would be an expensive proposition. However, the bulk of that cost would most likely either be directly paid by, or indirectly passed through to the developers. The exact cost would be based on what is being considered, but an (EIR) Environmental Impact Report couldraise the costs to over $1 Mil. However, since the housing issue there appears to be dead now, it's a moot point.
