Bus-only lanes on El Camino have been coming for several years. City Councilmembers and others could fight the plan, and some Councilmembers have spoken out in other cities. But Mountain View's City Council has two long-time proponents of bus-only lanes (Margaret Abe-Koga and Ronit Bryant) and the rest of the current and incoming Council members seemingly have nothing to say. If you think El Camino is overly crowded now, just wait to see the standstill when the center of-the-road lanes are reserved for the occasional bus (every 10 minutes at most). Initially. The bus-only lanes will be built to Showers Drive only to head off opposition from the rich and powerful in Los Altos and Palo Alto. But the plan is for dedicated lanes from San Jose to South San Francisco. Politicians and activists come and go. What remains are career government bureaucrats advancing their own interests.
