For some reason this reminds me of Stalin's idea of socialism in one country: Web Link

Why don't we just all curl up in our homes and let the folks of City Hall just send out texts/e mails on how to run our live, hire our help, use our water, heat our homes, etc.... what with the feds now telling us the type of toilet to use, the type of litebulb, the size of our gas tanks, cars, etc.
Heck there really isn't much left for us minions to worry about or to chose...

It sounds like the City Council cannot make a rational decision on liberal polices unless there is organized opposition. Rational individual decision making is not for these folks I will watch and vote in the upcoming election accordingly.

To all those grumpy gusses who watch Fox News, read the Heritage Foundation analyses religiously, love their "free" grocery plastic bags, I highly recommend that you vote with your feet and move out of Mountain View! That will really send a message to those darned liberals who hate poverty, love to save endangered species and otherwise just tick you off.

Minimum wage is an inappropriate issue for our city council. At the state level, maybe. Mostly it belongs at the national level. We have low wages thanks to a national policy of sending jobs abroad, and a national policy of bringing in lots of working-age people. Local councils should spend their time on local issues.

The side effects of raising the minimum wage is more underground economy workers where taxes will not be paid and workers will be at risk for lack of proper work insurance. Also, service firms from Daly City will benefit because they will drive workers into Mountain View and sell services for lower amounts of money than legitimate business in Mountain View can provide and thus Mountain View will be hurting the small business owner. Folks, we don't live on an island.
