Is google responsible for what their contractors do with scheduling?

Of course Google is not responsible for their contractor's scheduling, that's why they shield themselves by using a contractor. That's standard operating procedure for most big companies that don't want to be liable or accountable. What's legal and what's ethical is another matter...

Will Google's new in-house team be joining SEIU?

Losing the Google contract does not look good for Scott Vermeer. One thinks that SIS had Google in mind when hiring a former Mountain View police chief.

Let me get this straight.

"After [SEIU] protests of its labor policies, the company that employs security guards around Google headquarters, Security Industry Specialists, has had its contract terminated by Google."

So, all those SIS employees at Google go from 80% part-time and 20% full-time (SEIU's figures) to 100% out-of-work.

That is "helping" the SIS employees exactly how, SEIU???

Hasn't Google ever heard of the due diligence process re hiring anyone? including sub-contractors and their employment policies? DuH?

Lowest bid is not always the best bid. Why is that lesson not engraved on every CEO's forehead.

OH, so now he is getting a paycheck plus a hefty PENSION. That is outrageous,these types of double dipping needs to stop. Why does his pension not stop when he gets another job? Outrageous. Why didn't' he take his old job back? That is like someone with unemployment wages finding a job and still receiving his unemployment money. That is just not right!!!

People, we really need to go after these double dippers. And we wonder why our taxes are soo high.

I'm sure the SEIU applauds that the police union set up nice benefits for him.

I'd be so proud to be a member of that union right now. They really looked out for their members on this one.

To blame Google for this is just stupid though. Google did not employ any of these people and Google is probably contractually bound to not be able to "rehire" any of them for a period of time. That's pretty standard when you utilize contractors for services. So blame SIS if you want to blame anyone.

Google exists to make a profit for its shareholders, plain and simple. It's the same model used by the vast majority of companies in the world. To complain about this like only Google does it is just silly.

If you don't like the way contractors are treated in this world by all means start your own company and make everyone you hire a company employee with full benefits and above market pay. Promise them a job for life and a pension upon retirement. Hopefully whatever your company makes is really popular because you're going to have a lot of overhead trying to make it.
