I don't like that parking is higher priority than parks.

I guess we walk in different areas Sparty. I walk San Antonio all the time and there are no public parks for humans in the change area unless you call the median area in front along the Hetch Hetchy a "park". There is a park for dogs. The closest park for humans is what the city calls a "pocket" 2 blocks away on Del Medio. If we are going to have residences in the area, we need parks and other types of open space where people can go.

I predict that the developer will walk away from this without a number of changes. This was going to give us another nice hotel and another Movie theatre. I go to Cupertino now to watch movies. This project would have been very nice, but now it is a big mess.

Klein Park. Less than a mile.
Rengstorff Park. About a mile.
Monroe Park. Less than a mile.
Most people can walk a mile. If not, there is always tons of empty parking at Rengstorff Park.

Left out Castro Park... but that's over 1 mile away. (about 1.1 miles)
I know that extra 0.1 mile is pretty far if you're on foot.
You can also walk to Bullis which isn't an official park, but plenty of people with kids and dogs are there treating it as a park. Even some tennis players now and then. That's about 0.4 miles, but crossing a city border, so might be iffy for some people.
You could also walk to Alta Mesa, but that also breaks the 1.0 mile mark by 0.1 miles. It also requires another city border crossing, which without the proper papers, could result in you spending years in a tiny cell. And 20 minutes is a pretty long walk for most people, especially in this area where fitness isn't much of a priority to the majority of people.

I miss Sears, Sports Authority, Shoe Pavilion, going back further, the hobby shop and JC Penney.
I miss Burger King, Fresh Choice and Boardwalk. Not the best restaurant but Marie Callender's as an alternative to Chillis with a kids' menu.
Please give us useful retail and affordable family dining, with kids' menus.

I liked Liberty House...but it got replaced by JC Penney. But I actually liked Liberty House better when it was Rhodes.

Dear Folks who live or work near San Antonio. You know San Antonio is already a parking lot most of the day.
Please tell Lenny Siegel to propose more houses in his own neighborhood.
From the Lenny's e-mail to Balanced Mountain View.
The Mountain View City Council study session on the San Antonio Area Precise Plan is scheduled to begin sometime after 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7, at Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro Street.
I believe it's important to attend, both to reinforce our earlier calls for more housing in the San Antonio area but also to urge the Council to make the document a real PLAN.

More housing? Or more houses? Or low income housing? Because several apt complexes are renting in that area.

Hello,
does anyone know what's happening with the Milkpail Market? Strangely, it is not mentioned in the article or the comments thus far. It would be great to have the Milkpail preserved. It is the best place to buy food in the area, at very reasonable prices and great quality. If you are worried about large disparities in income please don't just consider housing - the visitors of that store are a diverse crowd: all income levels. See for yourself, and try WholeFoods for a comparison. Where will people who can't afford WholeFoods get their groceries?
And the store feels unique - far more interesting than any of the new fancy stuff in San Antonio Phase I. It is true Mountain View, authentic, and uhm, super tasty.
So: Will the Milkpail stay?
It is my impression that a precise plan can set policy, including with respect to parking / shared parking / etc.: effectively, the city has the choice to set the rules so that this existing store can stay or not. So this is relevant. Anyways thanks much for considering this issue!
