Amount of dog poop picked up to decrease by 75%.

@Resident, Then that would make 75% of dog owners irresponsible and lazy. Since I don't think that is true, I don't think you're prediction will be true either.

Find it curious that bags are vilified while plastic bottles aren't. Plastic bags can be reused for many things e.g. trash can liners, while plastic bottles are pretty much useless. Could it be because plastic bottles are profitable and bags aren't?

@The poop: Obviously that was in jest. I'm just pissed off that I have to buy garbage bags now at Target or Walmart instead of using shopping bags (that will all go to exactly the same place), and that I have to use and wash filthy cloth shopping bags. Nothing is free and without effect; this ban is typical liberal thinking.

@just me: I agree about plastic bottles being the worst issue. I've saved plastic bags for re-use for years... small garbage liner, waste basket liner, or mini-trash bag next to couch. Have 1 small plastic bottle saved for keeping in fridge for cool drink, and I re-fill it too.

@Resident's unfunny attempt via a specious comment about dog poop issues: People in my neighborhood use the produce size plastic bags, or buy the poop bags for the pick up needs.
Responsible people don't look for or need excuses to avoid doing the right thing.

So if that's all you got, I guess we can count on you to support limited plastic bags.

@Maher: Yep, let's pay for what we used to get given to us. Sounds great. Will you pay for mine?

Resident complained about "typical liberal thinking" then said: "Yep, let's pay for what we used to get given to us. Sounds great. Will you pay for mine?"

Typical liberal thinking says "I should get it for free. Give it to me!"
Capitalism states you must pay for what you get.
You are in fact, what you despise and highly confused about what is liberalism and what is capitalism.
This is the perfect place for you. Stay here, I'll be right back.

Before the plastic bag ban, I would go to walmart and buy some stuff. They were very liberal in giving bags, with their little bag loading/staging carousel. Sometimes, they would just put one or two small things in one bag! For example, I would get ten items and would end up with 8 bags! I'm sure some ended up in Stevens Creek, but that is what we have stream cleanup teams for, right? :)

By the way, the bags "given" away by stores are not really free. They are an expense that must be recouped through raised prices. That's capitalism. That's America.

Oh yes, how many people died from diseases caused by reusable shopping bags? I think the people that complain about this probably need a lesson in basic hygiene. Shirts, socks, undies, etc.. need to be washed...frequently! Once you learn how to do that, it is very easy just to pop a reusable cotton bag into your regular wash.

Whew! Crisis averted!

@bagless: lol if you think that we will see 1/10th of one penny of any store's saved money from no longer having to purchase plastic bags.

And lol at anyone thinking that this has anything to do with anything other than liberal nanny state policies. I can't even make sense of what you're trying to say, @All Mixed Up.

This state is ridiculous.

Can you imagine the result of the State initiating a CRV fee on these bags? They would dissappear off the face of the earth. Not that I'm advocating another avenue of taxation which we suffer enough of.

I have a buyer for your home who thinks this state is great. I hear TX has cheap housing and supports empty catch phrases of complaints. Sounds like a win win. Hit me up.

I used to work with a person who complained about how much he hated the company he worked for. Funny thing was, he stayed there. Every day, sniveling and complaining about the company and how bad it was, yet he continued to stay.
We decided he was just a chronic complainer and he either didn't really hate the company as much as he did, or he was personally incapable of making the change, for whatever reason.
In time his complaints became humorous and we really never took anything he had to say seriously.

Reusable, lightweight, colorful, fit in a purse/pocket nylon bags can be purchased at Diaso (Stevens Creek Blvd) for $1.50 each. Have used them for years without any problem. They make great gifts....gift yourself and stop complaining.

EPA, our new rulers and commie buddies will make sure to take away anything that is free, even your freedom.

All of this is a feel good story for the Environmentalist that think they are making some difference, buy restricting others actions. This is just the start, wait till they come up with a carbon tax on how much you breath. They make companies pay into that. All in the name of the Environment. Why do you think the liberals are pushing the global warming thing. Oh wait, now it's climate change, since they figured out it's not warming after all. In the 50s it was global cooling.

Bottom line, the liberals are looking for more money, so now u pay for your bags. It could be free, but the govt. insists you pay. Liberal mentality, all about how fast they can take the money out of your wallet and then spend it.

Can't stand litter. Can't stand people who throw litter anywhere rather than put it where it should be or take it home. Can't stand those paper coffee cups I would rather have a real one, maybe we should ban them. Can't stand plastic forks and paper plates, would much rather have real ones, maybe we should ban them. Can't stand double wrapped plastic around our bread I would rather have freshly baked bread in a paper bag, perhaps we should ban them. Can't stand finding gum on the ground, Singapore bans it, perhaps we should ban it here.

And so on ad infinitum.
