You gotta be realistic. Google is not going to defend your intellectual property rights unless you have a big advertising budget.

@property rights it appears you don't know much about Google. Clicking the "submit a copyright claim" button on the Google website will allow you to request a take down of content that infringes on your copyright. Having a large advertising budget with Google does not mean the rules are different. Have a look at the eBay news story from yesterday, where they were penalized by Google in search.

Not sure if going to the Google offices and accosting a random employee is the right way to go.

This guy is not too bright. The "Take Down Notice" according to the DMCA needs to be in writing. *Note: showing up and threatening people with violence (Mr. Rappa) seems like a gimmick or this guys is in need of being "sent back to B**** School"

I witnessed this confrontation, and I'm pretty sure Mr. Hutchinson was intoxicated and/or on drugs. Right when the police arrived, he charged at the officer and began attacking. The officer took Hutchinson to the ground, and cuffed him with the help of another officer + a Google security officer. Later more police arrived, and it took 5-6 people to get Hutchinson into the police car because he was fighting back crazily.

Showing up at 1950 Charleston to ask to take down a youtube video is like showing up at the White House to renew your passport -- it can never work. I don't see how anyone could possibly blame Google here -- there are procedures for getting things taken down from YouTube, and these procedures don't involve showing up in Mountain View, harassing employees, and attacking Mountain View police.

I know this guy acted like a child and was deranged and doesn't know how the Internet works, but I admire his initial approach to his problem. We act like the Internet doesn't exist on a physical level sometimes and in his ignorance this guy naturally believed that his problem could be easily settled by talking face to face with a representative of the company at its brick and mortar location. It's actually surprising that anyone even slightly informed would find that idea completely stupid, why shouldn't you be able to walk into a lobby at Google and ask the receptionist to help you find someone to discuss a problem you, a customer, are having? Instead he comes to the campus already angry only to find out that absolutely nobody will take his problem seriously or take any responsibility for what in his drug addled mind must have been a huge injustice. If he hadn't fought those cops I'd almost feel sorry for him.

@property rights: You are the one not being realistic. It is quite easy for anyone to get something taken down (much harder to get it back up if taken down in error. Showing up belligerent and possibly intoxicated and attacking police officers is not the way to do it.

No. I am going to go out on a limb and say it IS completely stupid, and has nothing to do with the Internet. You have a beef, so you go to "a" lobby of a company with over 50K employees spread all over the globe, and you expect the person at the lobby to be able to get someone from the right function to help you? This would have gone no differently in the 1940's if you went to a random lobby at GE to complain about an appliance feature.

There is a good chance the people who could help you are thousands of miles away. This does not EVEN take into consideration that the person in this case was obviously unstable and probably was not exactly kind and reasonable to the person in the lobby (going by the need to call police and the fact that he ATTACKED an officer). ESPECIALLY when there is a VERY easy way to address it from the comfort of your living room (takedown requests on YouTube and other such services are very common and there is a DMCA law making their removal simple and mandatory).

The corporation is not the bad guy here just because they are a big corporation.

I wanted my download report not to have my content taken down. Kendrick Lamar never paid me for lyrics he stole, and I simply wanted to speak about several third party claims on my videos. Then go back to LA. By refusing me a opportunity to buy a visitors pass, I slept homeless for three days and returned angry. Cops already robbed me for my books and phone in LA and took evidence for my brutality case from last year. I am being alienated for no reason. I never received nor wanted to get money for what I put on youtube. I wanted to get it all reproduced and having it up is the only way people know I wrote those lyrics. I have no lawyer and am doomed but stop destroying my reputation. I was not on drugs and came to California clean. All you had to do was give me a download report but instead you filed a trespassing order on me for no reason whatsoever. I came back mad because of that. The cop was reaching for his baton and being the experience in La has me weary of expecting cops to use their better judgment. I punched him, he swung his baton, I blocked it and elbowed him in the neck. Then I was tased in the back cuffed. Google Security had nothing to do with my take down and stop telling these Lies DUKE AND MODERATOR... My life is ruined I came here with no criminal record and cant go back to publish work I wrote in jail because Santa Clara has not given me a po despite it being 3 weeks since I was released. I was told to go to the GA office instead of the Re entry office and lost my hotel voucher and am now homeless with no shelter that will take me.
