How big is that house, really?

A home's square footage is a number easily misrepresented, especially when determining ever-ambiguous "liveable space." Measurements can be taken in numerous ways, and what to include in those measurements -- garages, basements or porches -- is often unclear.

The IPMSC project is attempting to create an international standard for measuring properties of all types, bringing transparency and consistency.

The work is being led by 45 professional organisations including RICS, BOMA, IREM. The IMF and World Bank are supporters and the new standards are due out next year. you can see more by looking at the International Property Measurement Standards (IPMSC) website.
