City Council request for pay raise

Original post made by Kay Ritchey, another community, on Jun 15, 2014

If the City Council wants a pay raise tell them to ask Google, Linked In, Sobrato, Merlone Geier Partners and all the other large corporations and special interests to which they kowtow to foot the bill. Corporations are not people and as a real live person and long time resident of Mountain View I am tired of being ignored. I, for one, am certainly not going to vote for any pay raise. In addition any incumbent will not warrant my vote. I encourage all the real live citizens of Mountain View to join me in protesting the plutocracy the Council has created.

Yes, no raise for city counsel until all workers in Mountian View get an equivalent raise. Minimum wage has no meaning here. Rent is far too high for working people to survive.

Sad to see how uninformed Ms. Ritchey is about development and the council.

The council has not had any raise for decades, I believe. And I know many good people who would be excellent on the council, and want to serve, but cannot due to the absurd low rate of pay. The hours involved for the token monthly compensation is ridiculous.

It keeps the council unrepresentative of most of us, as only the wealthy, those supported by another, or those retired well off, can make this work. I say triple their pay, at least! Anyone working on that council deserves much more pay considering the many hours they put in, and so do WE deserve to have them paid more so that we have council members who better reflect the populist of MV

We can get three new ones this November, but few really representative people can consider the financial hit they will suffer to take this on. I personally know three outstanding people who would be great for this, but have to forget about it for strictly financial reasons.

Fortunately we do have the brilliant Lisa Matichak running. She has had ample experience to really know the ropes and how to understand the esoteric wording that council members must plow through daily.

And also there is the Think-Outside-The-Box candidate: Jim Neal. He really does not look the part of what the typical council member, but neither does he vote the same way as the block of council members we have had who always stick together for the big developers instead of for the little people! If we want new thinking on the council, we must get him in!

So vote for Jim Neal and Lisa Matichak!
