This is so inspiring! What an opportunity for students and the neighborhood. THANK YOU to all of those who made this possible. When PACT had a garden at the Slater Camus it was delightful and it brought a lot of happiness...I am certain this garden will do the same.

The Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF) is a fantastic non-profit that raises money for the Living Classroom program as well as many other enrichment programs in all MVWSD public schools like art and music classes, hands on science, after school sports and extended-day electives.
I am a parent in the district and I volunteer for MVEF. We just had our annual Spring Gala that raised over $90,000 to fund these types of enrichment programs. To learn more about our organization and how you can help, visit www.mvef.org.

PACT also helped put in the Castro Garden- before they 'moved on'. MVEF has been helping with these type of projects for decades! For instance- they also started helping all versions of "hands on science" with their support of FOSS science kits when the district was especially lean on funds.
Elementary schools and teachers can be especially good with these "project based learning" activities [ the current ed-jargon ]. The Common Core standards in math are especially relevant to doing the simple plant & harvest quantitative thinking (& calculations) that are involved in gardening. And science/math hands on concepts like "measuring" have particular relevance for these activities.
full disclosure- Mr. Nelson is but one member of the five member MVWSD Board- and but one parent of a MVWSD student. He speaks for neither the MVWSD or the other parent. ;)

As a grandparent of Monte Loma students I am thrilled that they are able to have these experiences.
