DOC isn't all that new but it is uncommon.
Concerned parents may want to consult the relevant page at Erowid, which is the most authoritative source on street chemicals.

The chemist Alexander Shulgin worked with it and wrote about it in his book PIHKAL:

DOC is relatively unknown and apparently quite potent but is not likely to be fatal. It is more closely related to MDMA but -- as is always the case with street drugs -- we will probably never know whether the drug was in fact DOC or some other unknown, potentially more dangerous chemical.
I hope the kid is okay.

One incident. Its intriguing because of the drug, but very uncommon and highly unlikely this will explode into some epidemic of use.
Interestingly, though, our society including parents have a very cavalier attitude when it comes to alcohol. One of the bigger money makers at the local grammar school's auctions is wine. We joke about "Oh I need a margarita" or "I just want to slip into a nice cabernet."
Meanwhile the stories come out every year: death while driving drunk, death by doing something stupid:falling off a cliff, freezing to death in Tahoe, or simply death by drinking too much of the stuff.
When our cavalier attitudes towards the MAIN KILLER OF TEENS changes, I guess we should start to worry about lesser threats like this DOC thing.
Remember, alcohol is a toxic Poison that will EASILY kill you if you drink too much of it....so just drink a little and tell you're kids its the way to go too. Makes total sense if you've been drinking.

Because weed is so hard to get compared to this drug. If he wanted weed--which he's probably already tried--he'd smoke that.
Sarcasm isn't funny when it's such a lame attempt

@Blind Drunks,
You should really do your homework before blasting other people. Wine is often served and auctioned off at school and other community group fundraisers (not to mention business, family, etc related events) and no one is "cavalier" about it. I've attended a wine tasting event that was an auction item, it was a dinner at a tennis club and no one got drunk, no one froze, no one drove off a cliff. Of course alcohol is a factor in about half of all murders, suicided, and motor vehicle incidents. That doesn't mean that school parents are out of control drunks, there is such a thing as moderate social drinking you know.
Your comment is inaccurate rambling. I hate blanket accusations directed at entire groups of people. If you have something constructive to add to a conversation about a drug that few have heard of that caused a problem for a young person in our community, please, let's hear constructive comments.

Maher is a registered user.
I never was attracted to using drugs to avoid contact with life... never made any sense to me. Life is fun and tough and so?
"Playing with drugs" and expecting to walk away on your terms with no harm done seems to me the equivalent of sticking your hand in a burning furnace and expecting not to get burned. Just stupid.
"In vino veritas" is an hilarious delusion except for the terrible consequences it causes.

incognito. I differ with your opinion. Your anger is telling though. I've seen the signs before. Be careful with that precious alcohol, I forgot to mention it clouds perception, can creates argumentative short tempered people(hmm)and is very addictive. It truly is a hideous substance...the social woes will never make it worthwhile IMO, but some can look past the death and horrors it causes every single day. Just as long as I can wear my "Life is a cabernet" t-shirt and zhrink mah winey wine wine.

Sounds similar to LSD and mushrooms mixed together.
Kids will be kids and things that are illegal or make you feel good, they are interested in. Usually not knowing the consequences. Some kids need to try things before they realize the consequences. Others learn from others mistakes. Which one are you or were you?
