Mountain View needs a fast and efficient traffic corridor for the vast majority of people - which means cars on El Camino.

As Abe-Koga notes, it can't be both a bike/pedestrian corridor and a traffic corridor. There are other and safer options for bikes and pedestrians. There are NO other options for high-volume cross-town car traffic.

By making El Camino fast and efficient for car traffic, we reduce car traffic and cut-thru on other streets, making those streets safer for kids, bikes, and walkers.

To do this, we should not add any more traffic lights to El Camino (which slows traffic and pushes it to side streets). And we certainly should not reduce the number of lanes for cars. Caltrans and VTA keep talking about doing that and putting in buses, but those primarily benefit commuters going through MV, not MV residents needing to get to one of the main shopping areas or to 85/101.

Well said. I agree with you totally. The arterial needs to stay as such and not become a high wall cutting out little city in half. I do not want to lose our views of the sunset/sunrise, the mountains, etc., nor do I want to create views of what were private yards and spaces for those who move into the new high price areas (with little floor space). That ECR is even considered proper for HIGH density development is shocking. This should not be. To live along a noise and exhaust fume ridden arterial is unhealthy and creates the need for HVAC in use year round, as tenants of this structures cannot open their windows to enjoy the breezes and fair weather we have here in MV.
